Legacies

If you are considering leaving some money to a charity in your will, you may have in mind to choose a charity which helps animals, or perhaps one which helps people with special needs. Here at the Conquest Centre you have an opportunity to fulfil both those desires in a single legacy by helping to ensure that the riding centre continues to offer its outstanding services into the future.

The Conquest Centre is a local charity run by a group of committed volunteers and staff. Every week over 170 disabled riders of all ages benefit from the freedom and stimulation of riding and carriage driving. The Centre provides disabled adults and children the rare opportunity to experience the thrill of horse riding or carriage drive in a safe and friendly environment providing social, physical and mental benefits.

Unlike many sports which exclude those with physical disabilities, profound learning difficulties and hearing or visual impairment, riding provides a degree of independence and freedom. Disabled people are encouraged to start riding for the enjoyment, the challenge and so they may become part of a group of like-minded individuals sharing a sense of achievement and camaraderie.

Riding offers these people the opportunity to go out into the countryside, through woods and over a stream, to experience a world that is usually denied to them. When riding they are on equal if not a higher footing than everyone else giving them a powerful sense of equality. Apart from psychological benefits, Doctors and Therapists now recognise the huge physical positives in riding. The warmth of the three dimensional movement of the horse is transmitted through the riders body making them more relaxed and supple, reducing rigidity and improving balance, posture and co-ordination.

Riding can provide a focus for developing skills and both young and old gain confidence in their physical, social and intellectual abilities. Teachers believe children have found a sense of purpose through this activity, which has increased enthusiasm for knowledge, through reading and learning about horses. This real interest has expanded their horizons enormously.

As with any charity for us to provide these invaluable services we require continual donations, sponsorship and legacies and so we would be grateful for any support you can give because through your generosity we are able to improve peoples lives.
