So, you think you would like to volunteer for us, but you are not sure where to start? Read on…
Give the office a call on 01823 433 614 and have a chat with Deb Farley, our Volunteer Co-Ordinator. Deb is in the office on Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Deb might suggest you pop in for a chat and give you some paperwork, or she might arrange to email you the paperwork (called a Volunteer Application Pack).
Once you have the Volunteer Application Pack, you need to complete it, plus apply for your DBS check online (if you are 16+), and fill in your Somerset Skills and Learning paperwork (if you are 19+). Don’t worry – this is all detailed in the pack.
You will then need to provide 2 personal character references written by people who have known you for at least 2 years and who are not relatives. These references can be in either letter or email format. Please e-mail them to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Once all this is complete, you will need to attend an interview (it sounds formal – it’s really not). Bring your completed Volunteer Application Pack, references, Somerset Skills and Learning paperwork (if applicable) and the 3 forms of identification you used to complete your online DBS check. *Payment required (£10 DBS check fee and £10 volunteer training day fee)*
You are then ready to attend a volunteer training day! We hold one volunteer training day per month, on a Saturday (start: 9.30am, finishing at approx 2.30pm). Check with your interviewer for the next available date or look at the on-line calendar.
Then ……….. start volunteering!
